William JonesJONES, William Atkinson, a Representative from Virginia; born in Warsaw, Richmond County, Va., on March 21, 1849; entered the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington in 1864 and served in the defense of Richmond, Va., until its evacuation; attended Coleman’s School in Fredericksburg and was graduated from the law department of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville in 1870; was admitted to the bar in 1870 and commenced practice in Warsaw, Va.; Commonwealth attorney for several years; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1880, 1896, and 1900; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second and to the thirteen succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1891, until his death in Warsaw, Richmond County, Va., on April 17, 1918; chairman, Committee on Insular Affairs (Sixty-second through Sixty-fifth Congresses); interment in St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.
